Tatiana Tchernova
Tatiana Tchernova teaches all levels of ballet, from pre-beginner to advanced.
Her experience is wide-reaching, crossing countries, continents and formats, including film and stage. She was first soloist and principal dancer with the National Ballet of Uzbekistan, and has performed the leading roles in Swan Lake, Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, Le Corcaire, Sparticus and many more renowned traditional and contemporary productions. She has also danced as a guest soloist with the Bolshoi and Kirov ballets in Russia.
In addition to her experience performing on stage, Tatiana has worked in the film industry throughout Europe, the United States and Canada as a choreographer, director, assistant director and producer.
Tatiana has been teaching ballet for over 20 years, sharing her talent and expertise with national ballet companies, professional and amateur dancers all over the world, including Korea, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Finland, New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Pennsylvania and Toronto.
Her students have triumphed in international dance competitions, including the Paris International Competition in France, and the USA International Dance Competition in Jackson, Mississippi.
Over the years, she has developed a unique approach to teaching, fusing traditional Russian styles with more modern New York City ballet styles, preparing dancers for success, no matter where their careers may take them. She has been working as one of the most esteemed and long-standing instructors at the National Ballet School of Canada, teaching all levels of ballet and repertoire since 1993.
Tatiana has also developed her own unique upper body and foot exercises to help strengthen and ease beginners into the art and technique of ballet, building strength and avoiding injury. She helps students identify and develop their unique attributes, encouraging them to expand those qualities and move forward in their evolution as dancers.
The atmosphere in Tatiana’s class is light-hearted and fun. While focusing on improving her students’ technique, she believes in the importance of creating an encouraging environment in which patience, repetition and support are key factors in helping students appreciate and master the art of ballet.
